Qingdao has three major port facilities, the Old Port,the Huangdao Oil Port and the Qianwan Port, for cargo and oil tankers, including China’s largest container dock, a 200,000t ore dock, a 200,000t petroleum dock and a 100,000t coal dock. Cooperative relations have been established with 450 ports in 130 countries. The 1999 annual cargo handling capacity was 72 million tons, exported commodities were more than 35 million tons and 1.5 million TEUs. In 1997, Qingdao Port was accredited to ISO9002 for passenger and cargo transport.

International Airport

The Qingdao Liuting International Airport, 36 kilometres away from city centre, is served by 13 domestic and international airlines, operating 58 routes of which 10 are international and regional. It is estimated that in 2002 over 2.3 million people, including 450,000 international travelers, were transported through the airport.

Railway

Railway

The railway, linking Qingdao and the second Asia-Europe continental bridge, is in operation for international container transport. Domestic rail lines connect Qingdao with Lanzhou, Chengdu, Xi¯an, Zhengzhou, Jinan and Jining, providing 6 lines for intermodular transport for international containers.

The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge will span the sea between the old and new urban areas of the city of Qingdao. Project commencement is estimated to be 2001.
